The world music attraction–Barcelona Gipsy BalKan Orchestra –in Canada!!!
Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra (BGKO) is an international ensemble that plays an unusually passionate combination of timbres and flavors of Ashkenazi Jewish music, jazz, Roma music and traditional music styles of various Balkan, Mediterranean and Eastern European regions. Their music is the unique fusion of multicultural music traditions that bland all the imprints of the different peoples inhabiting these geographies.
One of the most influential representatives of the new world music scene, the ensemble was formed in Barcelona in 2012. The BGKO is made up of international musicians from Serbia, Italy, France, Spain, Greece and Ukraine, and that contributes to the special blend of their vibrant artistic expression.
Their first name was the Barcelona Gipsy Klezmer Orchestra, and today, as in their beginnings, their sound is as unique and contemporary, charged with passion and personality which have been nourished by all traditions and influences across geographical boundaries.
At the same time, the band, inspired by the Barcelona scene, has become richer thanks to the different artistic influences of all members, from Latin-American, traditional, Spanish , Italian, Greek, Russian or Middle-East vibes, to the vibrant sound of jazz, flamenco, jazz manouche and rockabilly.
The Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra is promoting its latest album Avo Kanto. Avokanto means “grandfathers songs” in Esperanto, the only language capable of expressing the diversity of our band. It’s continuation of a journey that started two years ago with “del Ebro al Danubio”. Plenty of concerts, people, musicians and moments that still move us, gave birth to the songs on this album.
Since its creation BGKO gathers a faithfull and ever going fan base in the social media, with more than 10.000.000 plays of their videos on YouTube.
